The Craft Keeps Getting Sharper: Reflections from OSMOSISCon 2026
Inside the Work
I am still thinking about OSMOSISCon 2026.
This year's theme, The OSINT Craftsman, got it exactly right. Open-source intelligence is not a tool. It is a craft. It takes skill, patience, and judgment, and it takes knowing what a single public detail can become in the wrong hands. A home address, a gym check-in, a photo with a visible street sign. On their own they look harmless. In the hands of someone with intent, they become a map.
That is the work. Not running software, but understanding exposure the way an adversary would, and closing the gap before anyone else finds it.
Why the theme landed
The best practitioners I met at OSMOSISCon do not think in terms of features or platforms. They think in terms of patterns, motive, and consequence. They know that the difference between a data point and a threat is context, and that context only comes from experience.
Craftsmanship also means restraint. A craftsman knows what not to do, what not to publish, and where the line sits between diligence and intrusion. In protective intelligence, that judgment is the whole job.
The conversations after the talk
I was grateful to take the stage this year, and even more grateful for the conversations that followed. Some of the sharpest thinking happened in the hallway, not the session room.
To everyone who stopped by, challenged a point, or shared what they are seeing in the field, thank you. Every one of those exchanges sends me back to work with a better question than the one I arrived with. This community is the reason the craft keeps getting sharper.
Thank you
Thank you to the OSMOSIS Association team for putting the event together and for building a space where this kind of exchange can happen. Events like this are how a discipline matures.
I will see you next year.
